Mix 4. Wet Meadows
There are five species in this mix which are particularly important because they are now so scarce, betony, devilsbit scabious, meadow sweet, ragged robin and to a lesser extent fleabane. The wet meadow has almost ceased to exist because of land drainage, houses or because it has not been economic to provide fencing, in which case the meadow reverts to woodland. Other species such as marsh marigold and Lady's Smock were common in these meadows. Use grass mix 1 within the garden or grass mix 4.
The classic site for this mix is North Meadow Cricklade National Nature Reserve, which floods in winter but produces a hay crop which is followed by autumn grazing. This mix is comparable to MG4 (Mesotrophic or neutral grassland) of the NVC).
